Terms of Use

Last updated October 20, 2026. These terms are written to be read. Questions: hello@shopsmallbusiness.com.

What this site is

ShopSmallBusiness.com ("the site"), operated by Caffeine Group, Santa Barbara, California ("we"), is a directory of independent small businesses. We publish listings and send visitors to each business's own website. We do not sell anything on behalf of listed businesses, we do not process their sales, and we are not a party to any transaction between you and a listed business.

Using the site as a visitor

You may browse the site freely. The listings describe businesses in their own words; we review listings for eligibility but we do not verify every claim, and we are not responsible for what a listed business sells, its prices, shipping, returns, or service. Your purchase is between you and that business, under its own terms.

Listing a business

Eligibility

To be listed, a business must be independently owned, run by the owner whose name appears on the listing, and have its own website or online store where customers can buy directly. Chains, franchises, and businesses owned by publicly traded companies are not eligible. We decide eligibility at our discretion and may decline or remove any listing at any time, with or without a reason.

What you promise

By submitting a listing you confirm that the information is true, that you have the right to use the name, photos and other material you provide, and that you are authorized to list the business. You will keep the listing accurate and tell us if the business closes or changes hands.

What you give us

You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display the material you submit (name, description, photos, video links) on the site, in our emails and on our social media channels, for the purpose of promoting your business and the site. You keep ownership of your material. You can ask us to remove your listing at any time, and we will stop using your material except where it already appears in sent emails or past posts.

What we are not

A listing is not an endorsement, certification, or guarantee of any kind. The site does not certify businesses. Do not describe your listing as a certification or award.

Supporting the site

Supporter and Featured are voluntary annual contributions that come with the benefits described on the Support page. They are not required for a listing. Payments are processed by Stripe and are for a one-year term; they do not renew automatically unless you choose that at checkout. Contributions are non-refundable, except that if we remove your listing for a reason other than a breach of these terms, we will refund the unused portion. Benefits that depend on our capacity (such as a produced video) are scheduled as capacity allows.

Shopper email

If you sign up, we will send you periodic emails about businesses on the site. You can unsubscribe at any time. We do not sell your address.

Acceptable use

Do not submit false information, infringe anyone's rights, post anything unlawful, or use the site to send spam or to scrape data. Do not list a business you do not own or represent.

Our content

The site's design, text we wrote, and our logo are ours. Listed businesses' names, logos and material belong to them. You may link to any page on the site.

Disclaimers and limits

The site is provided as is. We do our best to keep it accurate and available but make no warranties about it. To the fullest extent allowed by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the site or from any dealings with a listed business, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, if any.

Independence

ShopSmallBusiness.com is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any bank, card network, or national shop-local program.

Changes and law

We may update these terms; the date at the top will change, and significant changes will be announced to listed businesses by email. These terms are governed by the laws of California, and any dispute will be handled in the courts of Santa Barbara County, California.
